Sunday morning and bright and sunny ~ I've just tidied up previous entry ~ a good many errors but typing is a challenge with my increasing blindness . Milton's poem springs to mind :
Milton on his Blindness
When I consider how my
light is spent,
Ere half my days, in this dark world and wide,
And that one Talent which is death to hide
Lodged with me useless, though my Soul more bent
To serve therewith my Maker, and present
My true account, lest he returning chide;
"Doth God exact day-labour, light denied?"
I fondly ask. But patience, to prevent
That murmur, soon replies, "God doth not need
Either man's work or his own gifts; who best
Bear his mild yoke, they serve him best. His state
Is Kingly. Thousands at his bidding speed
And post o'er Land and Ocean without rest:
They also serve who only stand and wait."
Today there seem to be three pairs of cabbage whites fluttering around the mallow bush but the minute the sun goes in they disappear. Sue was here this morning to change my bedding ~ fitted sheet and duvet cover and pillow cases ~ I can't cope with a top sheet which always gets tied in knots ~ such a help, and all bagged up for the laundry tomorrow. Washed my hair ~ leaning over the bath as usual ~ this is a bit of a chore these days and I only do it a couple of times a week ~ for years while I was swimming with the Old Fogies, it would be washed every day under the shower up at the baths ~ I do have a shower in a shower cabinet in the lower loo but I never use it ~ can never control the heat satisfactorily ~ the water is either chilly or far too hot ~ but visitors (mainly family) make good use of it. Next door's visitors have gone so yard is very quiet again ~ with school holidays upon us you'd think there would be visitors in all the cottages. Enough broad beans left for tonight and some more of these small new potatoes with an omlette I think. Was expecting another episode of "Normal in Norfolk!" tonight but is has had to make room for Athletics ~ hope we haven't seen the last of it. Felt uncomfortable all morning pn strong blue jeans and strong red jersey ~ realise there should be a difference in the strength of the colours ~ changed into faded jeans which were quite contented along with bright top ! I've had an itchy bum these last few days ~ I'm probably not drinking enough water which could result in strong wee ~ am now trying to remember to drink a glass of water every time I'm at the sink. Have finally got rid of the last of these rather ghastly mats I bought for John to brighten his bleak kitchen when he was thrown out of his home and family by his mad son ~ you can see how gruesome they were ~ purple and pink stripes ~ they came back to me when he went into a Home, poor old love ~ and I'm glad to see the last of them ~ I bought them from Lakeland at give-away price which is scarcely surprising.
Thursday 5.30pm ~ fell in the garden on Monday evening and ended up in James Cook Hospital, Middlesborough ~ merrcifully nothing broken though they kept me in overnight ~ I've been feeling a bit floppy since then but will try and catch up tonight after Ch/4 News and before Diana's Wicked Step Mother ! For now I am OK though a bit frailer.
8.0pm ~ No ~ I'm just not up to it tonight ~ I've mislaid my camera ~ apart from Keith Bedlington coming at 9 in the morning to investigate problem with washing machine, I expect to have a quiet morning in which to catch up ~ hope I'm feeling a bit brighter then.
Friday 4.30 : Barbara came and installed the fabulous new solar light for me in the lilac tree ~ only the solar panel has to be in sunlight ~ looks super ~ would take picture tonight but still cannot find the camera which I have not seen since I fell over on Monday ~ I've searched high and low which has led to some clearing out activity but no sign of the darned camera ~ surely I didn't throw it out ! Surely not ! Have decided to order another from Amazon ~ this one I got at Di's suggestion several years ago and as you know I am able to illustrate this blog lavishly. Ellen brought me a big bunch of delicate creamy-yellowy roses enough for two vases ~ so kind. The young family at number 4 left earlier and he came along to say goodbye ~ Ryan, Abbey and baby George ~ it was Ryan heard my cries for help as I lay there in the garden on Monday and fetched Tom and called an ambulance ~ actually Tom was disgusted that he rang FOUR times before he got them to understand that this poor old biddy had fallen and had been lying there in agony fot over an hour and slowly freezing to death in spite of the rugs and pillows they brought out to me. It taught me a serious lesson : wear my alarm at all times ~ at night I keep beside the bed and within reach while I'm in the bath ~ I had got a bit lax about it. Kate and family are coming over next week, staying in a family room at the Youth Hostel and picking Dan up on their way through York ~ long chat with Georgie just now and Bill will bring her over on Thursday to join the merry party.Right ~ time for a bath and another search for the camera before I get supper ~ an avocada tonight with thin brown bread and butter ~ so simple and so nourishing ~ and with no more than a squeeze of lemon de-lish.
